Lessons
customized for you
No matter what your background or where you plan to head we can help you to safely get into the Kite Sport of your choice. We teach from a basic beginner level right through to a full advance trick level.
The instructors at Ruakaka Kite Sports are passionate kiters who enjoy using a wide range of equipment to test there skills and therefore know the best gear to get you out on.
Everyone learns at a different pace and comes into these sports with different skills that might be advantageous; for these reasons we believe in one-on-one instruction. We will however teach groups of up to 4 people per instructor on request if the conditions allow.
Basic Lesson
No matter which of the kite sports you aim to get into you will need these basic skills:
- an understanding of the wind and weather,
- an understanding of the correct location and conditions to use,
- kite rigging,
- kite control and
- kite safety.
Getting moving
Once you show an ability to safely control the kite another element can be added such as:
- a buggy
- a MTBoard or
- water
Once moving you will face new challenges such as how to control your speed, stop, change direction and get out of trouble if things go wrong.
Going Kitesurfing/Kiteboarding
Kiteboarding is growing at an unbelievable rate. It is one of the most exciting new water sports and loads of fun. Along with the fun does come some risk. The kites used to kitesurf are very powerful and have to be used properly. Once you have the ‘getting moving’ skills dragging you through the water then we incorporate the next element – the kitesurf board.
Upping your skills
Once you’re up and riding or buggying confidently you might want to start learning tricks. You can do these by trial and error and talking to friends, or you can spend an hour with an instructor and nail it.
Our lessons generally run for two hours depending on the student’s fitness and the kiting conditions. To get out Kite Buggying or Kite MTBing will normally take one three-hour session. Getting kitesurfing will normally take three two-hour sessions. These times will vary depending on the conditions and the skills the student has.
If you are interested in lessons, please contact us for further details and availability –
you do not have to own gear to try these awesome sports.
