Local information Ruakaka is located on a subtropical peninsula at the entrance to Whangarei Harbour, 32 km from Whangarei and 135km from Auckland. The town stretches from the harbour beaches at One Tree Point through to the harbour mouth and down the golden sands of Bream Bay which extends 22 kms southward from Marsden Point to Waipu Cove. The two flat water estuaries on the long sandy bay and the flat water behind the 3 sandbars in the harbour make this a fantastic kiting destination.
